Mark 8:22-26

The need for the healing touch of Jesus is prevalent in Mark 8:22 as a blind man was brought to Jesus for healing, and they begged Jesus to help this man. The compassion of Christ took over as Jesus reached out and “took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town” (Mark 8:23a, NKJV). At first it seems as if the healing of Jesus is not working, but as Jesus made the man look up, his sight was restored (Mark 8:25). Jesus then instructed the man to not tell anyone of this miracle. This is not that Jesus did not want everyone to know of His healing power, but that the multitudes would become overwhelming and prevent Him from healing more people in that region. And also, because this leads one to ponder the working of Jesus in the life of the individual as a new personal relationship between that one and the Lord Jesus.

This is an example that the working of Jesus in our lives may not be fulfilled immediately, but “look up” to heaven as He develops a new relationship with you and allow His working to be completed in your life.

The faith of this blind man in Mark 8:22-26 is obviously strong as he begged Jesus to heal him. This kind of faith did not question Jesus as if He did or did not have the power to heal him; he knew that Jesus could heal him if it were in God’s will for Jesus to do so. And the method by which Jesus healed this man, “He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him” (Mark 8:23) was surely not a method by which any of us would perceive as the choice method by which we would desire to be healed by Jesus. The point is that we do not know the path God has for us in His will for our lives, and most likely so, it is not the path that we would script, but we need to let go of our own desires for God’s working in our lives and “look up” to heaven and welcome God’s ways into our lives. The Bible teaches us in Isaiah 55:8-9,

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,

Nor are your ways My ways,” says the

LORD.

“For as the heavens are higher than the

Earth,

So are My ways higher than your ways,

And My thoughts than your thoughts.”

Dear LORD,

Please help us to have faith that is not ashamed to come to You and beg of Your healing and powerful cleansing of our lives. And help us to be open to receiving Your ways as being higher and greater than our ways so that we would put our complete faith in You to work in our lives as You wish. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
