Mark 6:4-6

In Mark 6:4-6 the Bible teaches us of the sad truth of being stuck in the past as the people of Nazareth, because they knew Jesus as a young child and because they knew His earthly family of normal common people, they could not bring themselves to believe in Him as a Prophet with healing power from God Almighty.  In Mark 6:4 (NKJV) Jesus states, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.”  Jesus actually “marveled” at their unbelief.  But we also learn that from this point, if not already noticed, Jesus “went about the villages in a circuit, teaching” (Mark 6:6).  Jesus is noted here as being an evangelist.

This is a promise of the reluctance of those who know our past to believe in our future – in Christ.

Many people, if not to say pretty much everyone, are not aware that I do not enjoy returning to my hometown as my past there is, unlike Jesus, tainted and has many memories that I do not like to revisit.  But I know that my future – in Christ – has moved past that time in my life and on to the mission that God has is store for me.  God changes lives, and our past is gone; we need to move past the past and put our focus on the future of glory in Christ Jesus.  He is the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).  No matter of your past, God has a new life awaiting if you will grasp it and cling to Jesus forever.

Dear LORD,

You are the force that moves in our lives to change us unto repentance, but You also utilize our past to shape us into what You would have of us today.  Please help us to get past what others may think of us because of our past and help us to focus on our new life in Christ Jesus and of Your will for us now to bring glory to You through our lives – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
