Mark 6:33-34

In Mark 6:30-32 the disciples of Jesus have returned to Him and reported to Him all the great things they have witnessed through their preaching that He sent them out to do (Mark 6:7-12).  Jesus then sends them by boat to a deserted place across the sea so that they can get some rest (Mark 6:32).  But the Bible teaches us that the multitudes saw them depart, and in their excitement to be with them, many people went around the sea by foot, running to meet them once again on the other side.  They were so adamant about being with Jesus and His disciples that they arrived at the other side of the sea before Jesus and His disciples, and they were waiting for them to arrive (Mark 6:33).  The Bible teaches us in Mark 6:34 (NKJV), “And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd.  So He began to teach them many things.”

This is an example of people with a proper attitude toward being with Jesus.

These people, the multitude in Mark 6:33, were so excited about Jesus and the positive way in which He impacted their lives that they ran around the sea to meet Him and his disciples on the other side.  This is magnificent faith in our Savior.  This is knowing without questioning the power of Jesus, just as was the woman who was healed by touching His clothing in Mark 5:25-34.  Jesus declared in Matthew 11:28-30, “come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”  This “yoke” that Jesus speaks of is not to control you, but a statement of your obedience to Him in learning from Him and applying and abiding by the things He teaches you through His Holy Spirit once His acceptance is declared by you.  In Him you will find rest for your soul.  Make the declaration of Jesus to be your Savior today – put your faith in Him and abide by His teachings – and He will give you rest for your soul.

Dear LORD,

Please help us to see how important it is for us to not merely believe in You and salvation in Your One and only Son Jesus, but that we would believe with a passion that would prompt us to run to You with purpose of learning from the work of Your Holy Spirit in our lives that only comes after we declare Jesus our Savior and welcome Your Holy Spirit into our hearts and into our lives so we may draw near to You with purpose to be Your children – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
