Mark 5:25-34
In Mark 5:25-34 the Bible teaches us about a woman who had a serious physical condition for many years in which the doctors could not heal her. She had spent all her money seeking help but only grew worse through the years. But Mark 5:27 teaches us that when she heard about Jesus, she believed that He would heal her if only she could get close enough to Him to touch even His clothes. She went to Him and reached out her arms and hands to Him. She touched Him and immediately she was healed to the point that she knew within her that she had been healed (Mark 5:29). Jesus also knew that His healing power had gone out from Him within the crowd and He asked who had touched Him? Being in a crowd, many people had touched Him, but He knew that His healing power had gone out to one. The Bible teaches us in Mark 5:32-34 (NKJV), “32And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. 33But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. 34And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”
This is a promise and example of the healing power of Jesus for those who come to Him in faith.
The mystery in this passage is the will of God and the timing by which He works – His definition of healing and our definition of healing. I know people who believe in God with all their heart and have been living with afflictions all their lives yet have not been healed from their afflictions. But we do not know God’s will as He sees it, and we do not know His timing for His will in our lives. I believe the important part of this lesson for us is that we come to Him with outreached arms and hands with faith – believing that He can heal us. Sometimes God uses us in our afflictions to be an inspiration to others, that as they see us persevere, they will gain strength to continue to persevere in their own afflictions and put their faith in Jesus, the true healer.
Dear LORD,
We read of this woman who had faith enough to come to Jesus with outreached arms and hands to receive His healing power. She did not question if it was enough, she simply believed that it was, and she was desperate for healing. LORD, we are desperate for You healing and we come to You with faith that believes that You can and will heal us if it be in Your will for us. Please let it be so LORD in the name of Jesus heal us. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
