Mark 4:24-25

Jesus states in Mark 4:24 (NKJV), “Take heed what you hear.  With the same measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given.”  Jesus is referring to “hearing” His teachings and taking them to heart – applying His teachings in the lives of those who “hear” Him.  This is to those who are receiving of His teachings with an open heart, that in “hearing” Him, there is a belief in Him with intent to follow Him and apply His teachings in their lives.  As Jesus states in Mark 4:25, “For whoever has, to him more will be given; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”  As with any learning process, learning a little opens the door to learning more, but disregarding the teachings in the beginning will lead to a loss of it.

This is a promise that as we learn from Jesus and apply His teachings in our lives, He will continue to teach/reveal more and more to us.

God’s Word is the textbook to life.  We must read it; study it; and apply its lessons in our lives in seeking God’s will for us.  He will lead us and guide us to a continually deeper wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of His Word if we will do our homework.  God will not force us to follow Him and seek His will for our lives as is the nature of a gift – a gift in the form of His One and only Son Jesus to save us from sin.  As Jesus says, “Take heed what you hear.  With the same measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given.  25For whoever has, to him more will be given; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him” (Mark 4:24-25).

Dear LORD,

You offer us gifts of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding as we seek to learn from You through Your Word.  You offer us the gift of salvation in and through Christ Jesus.  But You do not force us to partake of these free gifts – yes – free gifts because You love us so much.  Please help us to be the ones that take heed of what we hear so that we may grow more and more in our wisdom, knowledge, and understanding through not simply listening to You but that we would hear what You have to say to us – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
