Mark 4:21-23

The Bible teaches us in Ecclesiastes 12:14 (NKJV),

“For God will bring every work into

judgment,

Including every secret thing,

Whether good or evil.”

And the Apostle Paul teaches us in 1 Corinthians 4:5, “Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts.  Then each one’s praise will come from God.”  In Mark 4:21-23 Jesus tells another parable stating, “Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed?  Is it not to be set on a lampstand?  For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light.  If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”

This is a promise that God knows everything we do, and that all things that we keep secret will one day be revealed: good or bad.

This is a command to utilize the gifts that God has given each of us.

Psalm 18:28 declares,

“For You will light my lamp;

The LORD my God will enlighten my

darkness.”

Psalm 119:105 declares,

“Your word is a lamp to my feet

And a light to my path.”

The words that Jesus speaks in Mark 4:21-23, “Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed?  Is it not to be set on a lampstand?  For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light.  If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”, are right after He tells of the ones that will receive a reward for producing fruit from the seed that He plants within us.  He now tells us to let that light shine, even if we do not see the results that we desire immediately in the lives of others.  One day, Jesus says, our reward will become known – in Christ!

Dear LORD,

Your Word is a light unto our hearts that allows us to shine throughout all the world as we utilize the gift(s) that You give us.  We may not see immediate results of our obedience to You, but we know that one day all will be revealed and our reward will become known.  Please fill us with perseverance to keep on running the race for Christ that You have put in our hearts.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
