Mark 4:10-12

In Mark 4:1-9 Jesus taught the parable of the sower, and in Mark 4:10 we learn that His disciples came to Him to gain understanding for the meaning of this parable.  Jesus answers in Mark 4:11-12 (NKJV), “To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables, so that

‘Seeing they may see and not perceive,

             And hearing they may hear and not

                        Understand;

             Lest they should turn,

             And their sins be forgiven them.’” [Isaiah 6:9,10]

This is a great example of coming to Jesus to seek His guidance.

The people in Isaiah 6:9-10 are the Israelites in exile of which only those who would trust in God would be freed from that captivity.  The Bible teaches us in Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”  Seek understanding from Jesus with all your heart, and you will find it – in Christ!

Dear LORD,

When we read and study Your Word, please help us to have the courage to come to You with the questions that arise through our not understanding so that we may have Your blessing to understand and grow in our relationships with You through our salvation in Christ Jesus.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
