Mark 3:20-22

In Mark 3:20-22 we learn of the attitudes of the earthly nature in those who witnessed Jesus perform miraculous healings as they accused Him of being possessed by the devil.  Mark 3:22 (NKJV) states, “And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, ‘He has Beelzebub,’ and, ‘By the ruler of the demons He casts out demons.’”

This is an example of the earthly nature that is always against God, Jesus, and His Holy Spirit working in the lives of humanity.

We continue to experience hostility against God, Jesus, and His Holy Spirit in this world.  But this hostility is from Satan as he has his grasp on the ways of this world.  It is his single mission in all he does to keep us away from God and realizing and understanding God’s great love for us.  When Adam and Eve sinned by eating the forbidden fruit in the garden, regardless that they were tricked into doing it by Satan working through the serpent, they disobeyed God’s instructions for them, which is sin, by definition being disobedience to God.  Through this act of disobedience to God, Satan took hold of humanity and indwelled us all with the sinful nature – the earthly nature, which is prone to sin.  God sent His only begotten Son Jesus, being Himself in the form of man to save us from this earthly nature – a grasp of Satan that we cannot break by ourselves.  The work to salvation is living a sinless life, which we are all incapable of living because we are all born into the earthly sinful nature.  The Bible teaches us in Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”.  But in Romans 6:23 the Bible teaches us, “For the wages of sin is earth, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Jesus heals us from sin as He rose from the grave claiming victory over sin, death, and Satan.

Dear LORD,

Please help us to realize and understand that this world will always perform by the earthly sinful nature that is at work in all of us unto sin, but please help us to realize and understand all the more that Jesus sets us free from the grasp of the earthly sinful nature and gives us a new life – a new life of forgiveness for our sins by believing and professing Jesus our Savior.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
