Mark 3:13-19

In Mark 3:13-19 is the account of Jesus choosing His twelve disciples that He would give the power to preach, heal sickness and cast out demons.  These would be the twelve that would travel with Jesus and be witness to the events of miraculous activity in His earthly ministry.  Those chosen were, “Simon, to whom He gave the name Peter; James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom He gave the name Boanerges, that is, “Sons of Thunder”; Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Cananite; and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him” (Mark 3:16-19, NKJV).

This is the calling of the twelve disciples that Jesus would give power to preach and heal along side Him during His earthly ministry.

As we learn about the twelve people that Jesus chose out of all those who followed Him during His earthly, physical ministry, there is a verse that stands out to me, and should stand out to all of us; and that Bible verse is found in Mark 3:13, “And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted.  And they came to Him.”  Jesus continues to call us to Him still today through the work of His Holy Spirit.  But this Bible verse of Jesus calling to Himself those He wanted is a desired response of obedience to Him: “And they came to Him” (Mark 3:13b).  When Jesus calls us to Him as those He Himself wants, we must answer that call in obedience to Him as did His first called disciples – we must say “yes” to Jesus.  It is only then that we may begin to see the blessings that He so desires to give us, come to fruition in our lives.  Say yes to Jesus today and see for yourself how He will work in your life through the blessings of His Holy Spirit and the new life that you will receive through believing in Him.

Dear LORD,

You chose Your first twelve disciples to be representatives of Your working in their lives so the whole world could see Your healing power.  You continue to choose us today to be representatives of Your working in our lives so the whole world can continue to see Your healing power of how You change the lives of those who will put their faith in You.  Please shine through our lives that others would be drawn to You through the working You do in our lives.  Please let it be so LORD.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
