Mark 15:33-36

We learn in Mark 15:33-36 of the last minutes before the death of Jesus as He hung on the cross with all the sin of man pressing on His heart – His life, as He felt the abandonment from His heavenly Father in the moment before He would fulfill His mission on earth to die a sinless death. Jesus cried out (Mark 15:34, NKJV), “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” But those who stood by watching still were more amused by the spectacle than the actual event taking place as they watched to see if Elijah would come to rescue Him (Mark 15:35-36).

This is the mission of Jesus coming to fulfillment on the cross.

We look in awe of the hardness of the hearts of the multitude in view of the crucifixion of Jesus, but we know the rest of the story; they did not. Their hearts and minds were not yet open to the truth that Jesus was God in human form and had come to take away the sins of the world (John 1:29). This message is still yet foreign to many throughout the world today. Let someone know of the love and forgiveness that Jesus has given you – and maybe they too will open their heart to Jesus and put their faith in Him.

Dear LORD,

We all were blind to Your great love for us at some point in our lives, but You opened our eyes to Your great love for us in Your One and only Son Jesus and the sacrifice He made for us so that we may all be saved who put our faith in Him. Please give us the confidence in Your love for us that we would share it with others that they too may feel the joy of salvation – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
