Mark 15:16-20

In Mark 15:16-20 there are so many things taking place in which fulfill Jesus’ mission as the Savior of the world: He was clothed in purple which is the color reserved for a King; He received a crown; He was saluted as a King; and He was worshiped. All this, however, was done in mockery, nevertheless it was done. At Jesus’ crucifixion there would be a sign placed on His cross “The King of the Jews” (Mark 15:26, NKJV). All these things were done out of mockery; little did the people know how true these things would be in reality.

This is an example of how little man knows about what he is actually doing in this world.

This is the preparation of the sacrifice that would end all sacrifice in that of the Savior of the world – Jesus.

We often wonder why God allows pain and suffering in the world if He is an all-good God. But the truth is that Jesus suffered for us, and in that is a reminder, in this world, of the pain caused by sin. Jesus suffered for us, and He states in John 15:18-20, “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember that word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you.” There is a place in which God will remove all our pain and suffering; it is called heaven. We can only get there by putting our faith in Jesus as He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through the Son (John 14:6). In this world is pain and suffering – the test of faith and of where we place our faith: in this world or in Christ. The choice is yours to make, but remember as Jesus states in John 15:19b, “…I chose you out of the world…”  Jesus will also help you through this world if you will put your faith in Him.

Dear LORD,

We are learning of the pain and suffering that Jesus went through even before He was crucified on the cross. He took it all for us. Please help this message to set in all our hearts so that we may see the love You have for us in sending Your One and only Son to pay for our sins so that we may be set free from them and live – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
