Mark 14:60-65

No one has been able to bring accusations against Jesus that were able to hold true, but in this is fulfilled the prophecy found in Isaiah 53:7-8 (NKJV) as Jesus did not allow the accusations of man to convict Him,

“He was oppressed and He was

afflicted,

Yet He opened not His mouth;

He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,

And as a sheep before its shearers is

silent,

So He opened not His mouth.”

We learn in Mark 14:60-61 that the high priest then brings the question to Jesus, “Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” With this, Jesus speaks His own words that were used against Him for conviction, “I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven” (Mark 14:62). These are not the words or accusations of man, but an act of God bringing Himself to pay for the sins of man. With this, brings the words of John the Baptist as declared in John 1:29, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” The words of Jesus Himself brings the actions found in Mark 14:63-65, “63Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “What further need do we have of witnesses? 64You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?”

And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death.

65Then some began to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, and to say to Him, “Prophesy!” And the officers struck Him with the palms of their hands.”

This is God giving His One and only Son to pay for our sins, not by the words of man, but by the Word of God.

The reply of Jesus in Mark 14:62 begins with the words, “I am” and is further fulfillment of His deity connecting with the words of God to Moses in Exodus 3:14 and reiterated by Jesus in John 6:35; 8:12, 9:5; 10:7, 9, 11, 14; 11:25; 14:6; 15:1, 5.

Jesus is the bread of life (John 6:35).

Jesus is the light of the world (John 8:12, 9:5).

Jesus is the “I AM” (John 8:58).

Jesus is the door (John 10:7, 9).

Jesus is the good shepherd (John 10:11, 14).

Jesus is the resurrection and the life (John 11:25).

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).

Jesus is the true vine (John 15:1, 5).

The attitude of the high priest and the officers at the conviction of Jesus continues to be the attitude of society today as self-righteousness haunts the lives controlled by the devil in keeping them from realizing their need for Jesus – their need for forgiveness and salvation in our Savior – the Savior of the world – Jesus. Open your heart to Jesus today and see for yourself the change that will take place in your life if you will simply believe in Him. Profess Jesus your Savior today and open your heart to the forgiveness that He has waiting for you, and He will set you free from the self-righteousness of this world and give you peace in your heart.

Dear LORD,

You are the way, the truth, and the life; please help us to believe – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
