Mark 14:55-56

In Mark 14:55-56 the chief priests, scribes, and the elders had planned to bring false witnesses to testify against Jesus so that they could bring a conviction against Him, but the problem was that the false witnesses could not testify in a way that did not cancel each other out. This is the ways of the world lashing out at Jesus as the desires and will of the chief priests, scribes, and the elders were not that of God but of man. These leading authorities of the day had developed their own religious standards and traditions that made them stand above others in a selfish, arrogant, prideful guide to self-righteousness. Jesus declares in John 8:43-47 (NKJV), “Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”

This is an example of the false accusations of the world that are cast at Jesus.

Jesus said in John 15:18-20, “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.” The world continues to cast its false accusations at Jesus still today; and the world will continue to cast its false accusations at us for following Jesus. The Bible teaches us in Romans 8:37-39, “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Dear LORD,

This world continues to be full of false teachings about You and with attempt to lead us away from having a relationship with You. Please help us through Your Holy Spirit to stand strong in Christ. Please help us to realize and understand that as the devil tempts us with lies about You, he is worried about our relationship with You becoming stronger, and stronger, and stronger. Please give us strength to overcome the ways of the devil that we would live – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
