Mark 14:12-16

The Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread are very important events in the unfolding of God’s plan of salvation for not just the Israelites, but also for all people who would put Him first in their lives. This was all instituted as God was about to free His chosen people Israel from the captivity of the Egyptians (Exodus 11-13), which took place just before the crossing of the Red Sea (Exodus 14).

In Mark 14:12-16 Jesus shows a connection to His deity as He explains to His disciples where they should go and who they should see in preparing the Passover for He and them, and they found it just as Jesus had described.

This is an example of an Old Testament event being fulfilled in the New Testament.

The disciples of Jesus had not yet made the connection of the Passover Feast to the “Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” as was described by John the Baptist in John 1:29 (NKJV). They prepared and ate this “Last Supper” with Jesus just before He would be betrayed and killed by man unknowingly that they were making a sacrifice that would truly be the sinless sacrifice required by the Law to redeem mankind back to God. The physical aspect of sacrifice has been completed; what remains is for us to respond to God’s Holy Spirit speaking to our hearts for us to believe it, repent/turn from sin, and ask His forgiveness for what He had to do for us on the cross as He took our spot in death to be our salvation. Thank You Jesus!

Dear LORD,

When You gave the instructions to Moses concerning the Passover, You declared in Exodus 12:49, “One law shall be for the native-born and for the stranger who dwells among you.” Through Jesus You brought us all together as He became the Passover Lamb that was slain for the sins of the world! (John 1:29). Thank You LORD for saving us from sin, please speak to our hearts through Your Holy Spirit and help us all to believe – in Christ! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
