Mark 13:32-37

Jesus declares in Mark 13:32 (NKJV), “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” There is much said in this one sentence: no one knows when the Son of Man will return (Mark 13:26-27); the identity of our heavenly Father and the physical body of Jesus being separated by their positions in the Trinity; and that the angels are not all-knowing.

Jesus then gives an example of what it will be like when He returns to “gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven” (Mark 13:27). The emphasis is put on “Watch” and “pray” (Mark 13:33) – that we be ready for Christ’s return.

This is a promise and example of the return of Christ Jesus.

We do not know when Jesus will return, and this makes me think of not knowing the time or the day in which we will die, but in that moment is the time when Jesus will come to take us individually. But Jesus teaches us to be ready for that day; are you ready? Open your heart to Jesus today and be ready for His return whether it be for all at once or just for you. Jesus saves, and He can save you too if you will put your faith in Him.

Dear LORD,

Many people speak of getting ready later, after they have enjoyed the ways of this world for a while. But the truth is that we do not know how much time we have to prepare our hearts to receive the gift of salvation that You have for us. I pray LORD that today is the day that we open our hearts to Jesus, profess Him our Savior and believe that You have raised Him from the dead in victory over sin, death, and Satan for all who will receive – that it be me too in all our hearts. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
