Mark 13:14-20

In Mark 13:14-20 Jesus tells of the “abomination od desolation” that Daniel prophesied about in Daniel 13:31. Jesus states in Mark 13:19 (NKJV), “19For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be.” The reference to Mark 13:18 as Jesus stated, “18And pray that your flight may not be in winter.”, may be a reference to the rainy season in which the rivers would rise and be uncrossable—especially as Jesus explains in Mark 13:17 for, “those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!” Jesus goes on to say, “20And unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake, whom He chose, He shortened the days.”

This is a promise that a time of tribulation will come and be as Jesus states in Mark 13:19b, “such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be.”

We see great tribulation in the world today, but we have Jesus to help us through it in the power of His Holy Spirit. Jesus states in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” And for those who are experiencing tribulation in their lives Jesus states in Matthew 11:28-30, “come to Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Dear LORD,

There has been great tribulation in this world in the past, and there will be great tribulation in this world in the future. Please help us to see that it is not the tribulation that we should be focused on, but putting our faith in You to see us through whatever may come our way, that is where our focus should be – in Christ! Please let it be so LORD, In Jesus name I pray, amen.
