Mark 13:1-2

In Mark 13:1-2, as the disciples of Jesus were expecting a Messiah to take over the temple and lead the government, one of them noted to Jesus as if to lead Him into proclaiming His place in the great buildings in Jerusalem as the new King. But they did not yet realize that it was not the offices of man that Jesus came to rule, but the spiritual eternal kingdom of heaven from within our hearts, minds, and souls.

This is a promise that the kingdom of heaven is not confined to earthly buildings and titles but is of the spiritual world.

The answer that Jesus gave to His disciples when asked about the massive and beautiful building in Jerusalem was, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone shall be left upon another, that shall not be thrown down” (Mark 13:2, NKJV). The kingdom of Jesus is eternal and His kingdom of heaven is not made from earthly things that can be destroyed. Jesus teaches in Matthew 6:19-21, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Jesus came to be the ruler of our hearts, the place where our true feelings and thoughts live; where sincerity lies and the true self is found. Open your heart to Jesus today and profess Him your King – the King of your heart.

Dear LORD,

Thank You for sending us a King that cannot ever be destroyed; a King that is of Yourself in human form to pay for our sins and give us His righteousness to all who will believe in Him and profess Him our Lord and Savior. Thank You Jesus for being the King of our hearts. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
