Mark 1:29-31

In Mark 1:21-28 we have learned about Jesus healing a man from an unclean/evil spirit, and of how Jesus is more powerful than the unclean/evil spirits which He commanded and they listened to Him.  As Jesus and His four disciples: Andrew, Simon, James, and John left the synagogue and went to the house of Simon and Andrew, they found the mother of Simon’s wife to be sick with a fever (Mark 1:29-30).  In respect for Jesus to prevent Him from becoming sick, they informed Him of this condition.  But Jesus did not remove Himself from the sickness but confronted it, and with the touch of His hand to hers, this woman was healed “immediately” (Mark 1:31, NKJV).  We also learn a little more proof of her healing as the Bible teaches us that after she was healed, “she served them” (Mark 1:31).  She was healed to completion, and was able to tend to the hospitality of taking care of her guests.

This is a promise of the healing power of Jesus.

As Jesus begins His ministry, He has professed “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand.  Repent, and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15), He has healed a man from an unclean/evil spirit, and He has healed a common woman from a sickness.  This is what Jesus came to do.  When John the Baptist sent his disciples to Jesus to find out if He was the “Coming One” (Matthew 11:3), Jesus replies, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have he gospel preached to them.  And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me” (Matthew 11:4-6).  Jesus came to heal, and He gives us examples of healing all through the gospel accounts.  These events have been recorded so that we too may believe in Him (John 20:30-31) and be healed, not just physically, but that the physical healing are an example of His healing power so that we will trust in Him to heal us spiritually, which is the true healing that He came to do (John 3:16-21, 4:23-24).

Dear LORD,

We trust in Your great healing power through Your Holy Spirit working in our lives still today.  Please open our eyes, hearts, minds, and souls to Your great healing power through the spiritual healing that You offer to us in Your One and only Son Jesus, that we too would experience Your great saving and healing power in our lives.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
