Mark 12:1-12
In Mark 12:1-12 Jesus tells a parable that is focused at the hardened hearts of the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders as they refuse to accept Jesus as being the Son of God. Throughout the Old Testament God sent prophets to lead His chosen people Israel in the ways that would lead them to righteousness, but they continued over and over to refuse to follow in the ways of the LORD. This is reflective of the servants that the owner of the vineyard sent to the vinedressers, of which are reflective of the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders. Eventually the owner of the vineyard sent his “one son, his beloved” (Mark 12:6, NKJV) that is reflective of God sending Jesus, but he was killed by the vinedressers, which would be the same fate of Jesus to come. Jesus then quotes Psalm 118:22,23 declaring,
‘The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone.
This was the LORD’s doing,
And it is marvelous in our eyes’?”
The Bible teaches us in Mark 12:12, “And they sought to lay hands on Him, but feared the multitude, for they knew He had spoken the parable against them. So they left Him and went away.”
This is an example that Jesus will be rejected in this world by those who refuse to accept Him as the Son of God.
There are so many people in the world today that refuse to accept Jesus as the Son of God. There are so many people in the world today that refuse to open their hearts to the fact that we need help – we cannot obtain righteousness for ourselves in the eyes of God. But that is the issue: so many people are not concerned about obtaining righteousness as God desires for us because they have developed their own righteousness that is defined by the individual, which in turn is defined by another as something else, and causes conflict in finding true righteousness as the righteousness of man will fade away, but the righteousness of Christ Jesus will purify one unto the righteousness that man cannot obtain by his own definition – a true righteousness that purifies the soul and sets one free from the bondage of sin. This righteousness is found only through the gift of God in His One and only Son – His Beloved – Jesus. Open your heart to Jesus today and put on the true righteousness of our Savior Jesus; a change will happen through your faith in Him as you humbly ask God’s forgiveness and receive His gift of salvation for you – in Christ.
Dear LORD,
The Bible teaches us in John 20:30-31, “And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” Please touch our hearts through the working of Your Holy Spirit so that it may be true in all our lives – in Christ! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
