Mark 11:1-11

In Mark 11:1-11 is the story of the triumphant entry as Jesus sent His disciples to acquire the colt of a donkey for Him to ride on as they came to Jerusalem. This fulfills the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9 (NKJV) declaring,

“Rejoice greatly O daughter of Zion!

Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!

Behold, your King is coming to you;

He is just and having salvation,

Lowly and riding on a donkey,

A colt, the foal of a donkey.”

In Mark 11:7-8 the disciples brought the colt to Jesus and laid their clothing on it as Jesus then took what they gave Him to the final place of His crucifixion. People laid their clothing on the road in front of Him and garnished the road with palm branches. As Jesus rode by, the people shouted,

“Hosanna!

‘blessed is He who comes in the name

                        of the LORD!’ [Psalm 118:26]

Blessed is the kingdom of our father

David

That comes in the name of the Lord!

Hosanna in the highest!”

This is the triumphal entry as Jesus rode into town on a humble colt of a donkey as the people gave Him what they had, which would in turn, open them to receive the gift the He has for them in salvation and redemption for all who will believe.

The people gave their clothing to Jesus as He rode the colt into Jerusalem as if unknowingly not seeing the symbolism of giving their sins to Jesus to take to the cross. They paved the road with their clothing as if not seeing the symbolism of Jesus trampling their over their sins as He is led to the cross to fulfill His mission for humanity. The road and the colt arrayed in splendid color with the many colored garments and palm branches that represent the colorful array of Easter as we celebrate what Jesus has done for us in taking our sins to the cross and in His resurrection giving us the gift of life in exchange.

“Hosanna!

‘blessed is He who comes in the name

                        of the LORD!’ [Psalm 118:26]

Blessed is the kingdom of our father

David

That comes in the name of the Lord!

Hosanna in the highest!”

Dear LORD,

Thank You for our Savior Jesus who took our sins to the cross, even before we committed them, and in His humility gave Himself in His purity to death, that overcoming death three days later, would rise to be the greatest King ever – the King of eternal life and forgiveness! Thank You LORD! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
