Mark 10:13-16

It is no small thing that as Jesus finishes speaking about marriage, and divorce, that small children are then brought to Him – the offspring of the union of the man and the woman. As His disciples discouraged the people from bringing the little children to Jesus, He states, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. 15Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” Jesus says, “…of such is the kingdom of God” (Mark 10:14d) and is in reference to beginning a new life in Christ through repentance and seeking forgiveness; but also in reference to becoming, through forgiveness and repentance, as the innocence of a little child.

This is an example of the innocence of a little child, and our relation to it as we open our hearts to the forgiveness of Christ Jesus and begin a new life of salvation.

To become as “little children” as Jesus refers to in the kingdom of God is to begin a new relationship with Him. The wisdom, knowledge, insight, and understanding of our new life in salvation through Christ Jesus does not come to us all at once – we have to learn. Don’t get me wrong though, we are saved as saved gets in Christ Jesus, but as a little child is innocent and new in life, so is the newness of salvation. Jesus declared to Nicodemus in John 3:3 (NKJV), “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” To be born again is to take on the newness of life in Christ Jesus; we must then begin to learn God’s will for our lives and of what it means to follow His will for our lives.

Dear LORD,

To become as a little child in our salvation is to put on humility and obedience to You as we begin to learn and grow in our new redeemed relationship with You as Your children. Our lives become renewed in Christ Jesus and the pathway in which we were walking in the sins of this world is repented and we begin walking a new pathway, a pathway that seeks and follows Your will for our lives – in Christ.  Please help us to do so that our lives would now bring glory to You. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
