Luke 9:18-20
In Luke 9:18-20, just after the miraculous feeding of the multitude, Jesus was spending a private time in prayer with His heavenly Father; a great example that we all should follow each day.
Jesus sets up a question to reveal and verify His true identity to His disciples as He inquires of His disciples, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” (Luke 9:18, NKJV) and “But who do you say that I am?” (Luke 9:20); a question that we all must answer for ourselves. The two most popular answers were that He was John the Baptist or Elijah (Luke 9:19), but Peter knew in his heart that Jesus was the Messiah (Luke 9:20).
This is a promise of the true identity of Jesus as He solidifies this truth to His disciples.
Who do you say that Jesus is? Jesus gives us the answer as He states in John 14:6-7, “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
‘If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.’”
Jesus will reveal Himself to each of us if we will sincerely seek Him in prayer, study of His Word, and by following Him each day of our lives. Ask Jesus to reveal Himself to you today and to help you make the right decisions throughout the oncoming year that will bring glory to Him through your life.
Dear Lord,
Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, as He proclaimed in John 14:6. Please open Your Word to us so that we will understand the importance of the forgiveness that is found only in Him. Your Word is our platform for knowledge, and Your Holy Spirit is our guide through this earthly life. Please help us to understand that Jesus is our mediator between us and You which bridges the gap for us to receive Your everlasting gift of true love through salvation in Him. Please open to us the way, the truth, and the life that is Jesus. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
