Luke 7:36-38

This woman, as we learn about in Luke 7:36-38 is described as a sinner. She realized her need for forgiveness and that Jesus was able to forgive her sins. When she heard that Jesus was visiting nearby, she did not hesitate but took with her a gift of fragrant oil and humbled herself, being aware of the sin in her life, and went to Jesus and submitted her life to Him and did the most humbling of humble things to do…she washed his feet. But not only that, for she washed His feet with her tears of her sincerity in acknowledging her need for forgiveness. This woman’s actions were not because she knew it would make her look good in the public eye, but out of the conviction of her sins in the presence of the Lord Jesus.

This is an example of the convicting power of the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The woman in this story was able to realize the sin in her life, and in the realization of her sin, she was able to realize the need for forgiveness. We all have sin in our lives that needs to be released to and through forgiveness in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Satan tries to make us feel like we will be less of a person if we admit the need for forgiveness from Jesus, but that is why Satan is Satan, because he decided that he did not need God; he decided that he could exist in glory without God. For his actions, he was cast out of heaven, and in his selfish pride, arrogance, and jealousy, he is striving to keep us from entering heaven to live for eternity in the glory that he was cast out. The attitude of Satan is that if he can’t have it, then he doesn’t want anyone else to have it either. Sound familiar?

Dear Lord,

Please help us to see that it is Satan that is striving to keep us away from a personal relationship with You and experiencing forgiveness in Jesus, the One You sent to save the world from sin (John 3:16-17). Please speak to our hearts so that we would be convicted of our sin and realize the need for forgiveness in Jesus. Please give us the strength to humble ourselves to Jesus and sincerely ask for His forgiveness. Give us the strength to repent (turn) from a life in the sinful nature of Satan and put on a new life through forgiveness in Christ Jesus and live for You Lord. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
