Luke 6:21a

Jesus has shown those around Him that He is not only capable of healing them physically, but also of healing them spiritually. No one wants or desires to be hungry physically, but to have a spiritual hunger for God and to draw closer to Him in our relationship with Him is a very good and important part of our relationship with Him.

Jesus showed His ability to fulfill the hunger of humanity in the miraculous feeding of the five thousand as described in Matthew 14:13-21, Mark 6:30-44, Luke 9:10-17, and John 6:1-14. As He prepares to go to the cross for the payment of the sins of humanity through His death, He will fill the spiritual hunger of man through the forgiveness of sin. Those who then hunger will be filled. Those who hunger for the new life that Jesus offers are blessed through their continued desire for Him. The blessing is the reward for seeking Him.

This is the promise of a blessing for those who seek a new life in Jesus.

Jesus is capable still today of fulfilling our needs both physically and spiritually. As we begin to see our need for Him in our lives, we will develop a spiritual hunger that will continue to grow throughout the rest of our physical lives in the desire to grow in our relationship with Him. This is the fuel of His Holy Spirit working in our hearts after we open our hearts to Him and invite Him in to forgive our sins and begin a new life in Him. When we follow the guidance of His Holy Spirit we will experience this blessing as Jesus states in Luke 6:21a (NKJV), “Blessed are you who hunger now,

For you shall be filled…”

Dear Lord,

Thank You for speaking to our hearts in giving us the spiritual hunger that we would not seek without You prompting us to do so. Please help us to respond to that hunger, that we would open our hearts to You and receive Your gift of Your Holy Spirit, follow Your guidance throughout our lives, and receive the promised blessing of being filled spiritually in Christ Jesus. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
