Luke 24:13-27
In this passage two disciples, one of them named Cleopas, were traveling on the road to Emmaus when suddenly an unknown (at that time) traveler joined them as they spoke of the things that had taken place concerning the crucifixion of Jesus (Luke 24:13-16). In Luke 24:17-24 Jesus asks the two disciples about their conversation and they explained to Him the recent happenings as if He were the only person who had no knowledge of the recent event of the cross, and how the women of their group had found the tomb empty and spoke to angels on the third day of how Jesus had been risen from the dead. Jesus then rebukes them for being slow to believe in all the teachings of the prophets about the things which must happen concerning Himself, and then proceeds to explain everything about Himself that was found in the Scriptures beginning at Moses and how this was required for Him to enter into His glory (Luke 24:25-27).
This is the revelation of our risen Lord Jesus.
These disciples of Jesus were present at His physical teachings and saw the miracles that He performed, and yet when confusion and trial were introduced into their lives, they were quick to forget everything they had learned, not just from being eyewitnesses of the events of the physical ministry of Jesus, but also of what they had learned about the Scriptures. I believe that in the hustle and bustle of our lives we are prone to act the same way as we are attacked by the anxieties of life. The first thing we do is forget about the guidance that we find in God’s Word and through prayer to our heavenly Father. Satan attacks with confusion in his attack to make us fall away from our relationship with God through our Savior Jesus, but these are just the right times to build our faith in Him; to turn to Him for guidance to help us through the tough times as He has stated that He will do this through His Holy Spirit which He has promised to us (John 14:15-18, 16:5-15).
Dear Lord,
Thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit to be our guide to life in the physical absence of Jesus. Please help us to first think of seeking Your guidance during times of trial and the everyday stress of this world, that we would put You first in our lives and seek Your will each day as we seek to be to the praise of Your glory (Ephesians 1:12-14). In Jesus name I pray, amen.
