Luke 24:1-7

We are informed in Luke 23:55-56 that the women were preparing spices and fragrant oils for placing on the body of Jesus in preparation for His burial in the tomb. Now, on the first day of the week (Luke 24:1), which is Sunday, the day after the Sabbath day of rest (the seventh day of the week (Genesis 2:3), the women return to the tomb to prepare the body of Jesus with the spices and fragrant oils. As they arrive at the tomb, they discover that the large stone which blocked the entrance to the tomb had been rolled away and no body was found in the tomb (Luke 24:2-3). The women were contemplating the condition of the tomb as two men appeared standing by them in shining appearance (Luke 24:4). The women bowed in submission as the two men asked them why they were looking for the living in the place of the dead (Luke 24:5) and informed the women that Jesus had risen from the grave and was no longer there (Luke 24:6), and then reminds the women of the words that Jesus spoke to them about the requirement for Him to be crucified and then be raised on the third day (Luke 24:7).

This is the resurrection of Jesus from the dead in His victory stand over sin, death, and Satan.

The entirety of the Bible either (1) leads up to the need for this event, as is the events of the Old Testament in showing the need for a Savior and the reasons why, (2) tells of the life and ministry of Jesus in His preparation and informing of this event for all of man as is the Gospel letters of the New Testament, or (3) tells of the importance of this event in Jesus being the Savior of the world in the fulfilling of the Old Covenant given to Moses by God, and of the New Covenant of Jesus requiring the purification of man’s heart in putting on a new life as God’s children through believing in Him. This is what the Bible is all about; not just the death of Jesus as He took all our sins to the cross and paid our price for them, but that in His resurrection from the grave, He defeated/overcame them in being raised from the dead. Death had no power over Him because death has no power over purity and innocence (Hosea 13:14; 1 Corinthians 15:55-57). The victory of life is found only in Jesus for this very reason. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). If you will give Jesus a place in your heart, you will find true eternal life in Him!

Dear Lord,

In this passage, we find the work that Jesus did for us for the eternal life that You offer to us through Him in being the Savior of the world. We ask that You bless each of us with helping us to understand this salvation given to us that we all may experience true life in Christ by believing in Him as our Savior and the Savior of the world. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
