Luke 23:13-25
In this passage is the sentencing of Jesus as He was found innocent (Luke 23:14-15) and not deserving of death and found to be less than a murderer and rebellion (Luke 23:18). The chief priests, rulers, and the people (Israelites/His own) demanded that He be crucified (John 1:10-11).
This is the fulfillment of the prophecy spoken of by the high priest (Caiaphas) that it would be better that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should parish (John 11:49-52).
Jesus has come into this world to share the good news of eternal life through Him (John 3:16, 17:3), that all who will believe in Him would know His Father in heaven through Him. The only way to defeat death, sin, and Satan is to enter into it undeservingly by being sinless. Jesus is the only one who qualifies for this mission. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). This is God’s great plan of salvation for humanity, that death, sin, and Satan would be defeated for humanity so that humanity may receive salvation through what Jesus did for us all.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for sending Your one and only Son to do for humanity what we cannot do for ourselves; and that is to redeem us from the sinful nature and back to a good standing relationship with You through the only way, truth, and life which is found in Jesus – the Savior of the world (John 3:17). In Jesus name I pray, amen.
