Luke 2:22-24

The days of a woman’s purification according to the law of Moses for childbirth is recorded in Leviticus 12, and the dedication of the firstborn is detailed in Exodus 13.  These describe the requirements of the Law as given to Moses in the Old Testament. Once again, these requirements of the Old Testament Law must be followed in God giving His Son under the Law to be verified as a proper and acceptable fulfillment for the Law.

This is the verification of Jesus in being the acceptable sacrifice in fulfilling the requirements of the Law.

The requirements of the Old Testament Law must be followed in and of the birth of Jesus to connect Him to the Law in being the perfect, pure, sinless sacrifice for the Law. These events of dedication and purification according to the Old Testament Law are necessary in making the transition from the Law of the Old Testament to the faith of the New Testament. In the Old Testament, the words of God are recorded in Habakkuk 2:4 (NKJV),

“Behold the proud,

His soul is not upright in him;

But the just shall live by his faith.”

In making the transition to the faith of the New Testament, the Apostle Paul states in Romans 1:16-17, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith” [Habakkuk 2:4].

Dear Lord,

You have sent Your Son to the world to save the world from sin as Jesus tells us in John 3:17; You have also revealed to us Your great plan of salvation in Jesus, making the transition from the works of the Old Testament Law to faith in Jesus Christ. He died, being the ultimate sacrifice in fulfilling the requirements of the Old Testament Law. He defeated sin, death, and Satan through His resurrection and offers through our faith in Him, salvation from sin, death, and Satan; and He gives us eternal life with You in heaven. Please open our eyes, hearts, minds, and souls that we would believe in Him and receive Him into our hearts, that we would be purified from the inside out through Your Holy Spirit that fills us with Your love. Thank You LORD! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
