Luke 21:7-9

In Luke 21:6 Jesus tells of the coming destruction of the temple. In Luke 21:7 the people ask for a sign of when this will take place. The reply Jesus gives is to not be deceived by false teachers who claim to be Him (1 John 4:1-3), and that there will be rumors of wars. Jesus says to not be afraid, but these things must take place before the end comes.

This is a promise that deception and wars will take place.

This is a command to not be deceived by false teachers.

Many people believe that by accepting Jesus as Savior they will automatically never experience trials or tribulation, but we live in a sinful, fallen world where wars and false teachers are present. If this is true, which it is, we may ask the question of, “Why accept and believe in Jesus?” The answer is the simple truth of Christ Jesus; We live in a sinful world and Jesus came to save us from the result of the sinful world in which we live.

Putting our faith in Jesus is seeking to follow Him through the trials and tribulations in which we will face while we live in this sinful world, that when we die the physical death having been faithful to Jesus through it, He will grant us the perfect world and relationship in Christ, in His glory, in heaven that He first created us for in the beginning. Sin corrupted human life on earth; God sent His one and only Son to defeat sin on earth that by believing in Him, by His love, mercy, and grace we will be redeemed back to Him for eternity (John 1:12-13, 3:16-17; Romans 3:21-26, 6:20-23).

Dear Lord,

Please help us to see that by believing in Jesus is showing our faithfulness to You through the trials and tribulations of this world, that as we accept Jesus in our earthly lives You will accept us in heaven for eternity. Please give us the knowledge, wisdom, and understanding of Your Word to discern the false teachers of the day so that we would not be led astray, but that our lives on earth would be to the praise of Your glory (Ephesians 1:12, 14) and inherit eternal life through salvation in Jesus.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
