Luke 21:34-36
Jesus finishes this teaching with the way of escape from the downfall of the coming end which is coming to everyone. Jesus teaches the people to be aware of the lives that they live in that they will be watchful and prepared for that day, for it will come on them unexpectedly (Luke 21:34-35). Jesus teaches the people to pray always that they may be able to stand confidently before Him when He returns.
This is a promise that our end day will come on this earth.
This is a promise that we can escape the fear of death through salvation in Jesus.
This is a command to be watchful and pray always.
Throughout Luke chapter 21 Jesus has been teaching of the end times of the destruction of the city of Jerusalem and of His power and glory in the event of the cross. Jesus ends this teaching with a way to escape the wrath of death. We are all going to die the physical death one day, but in the physical death life is found eternal through Jesus. When God created man on earth, His intent was for man to live eternally in reflection of His glory and giving Him praise (Psalm 45:17; 67:3; 69:34; 104:30-31; 145-150).
Praise is a product of love, and love cannot be forced or demanded; love is a choice. In the requirement of choice is also the possibility of freely making a choice that is not reflective of love. This is how Satan tricked Adam and Eve into sin by making a choice that was not obedient to love, for God is love (1 John 4:8, 16). To make a way of redemption from the choice that led to sin is the choice to accept God’s love through His Son Jesus (John 1:10-13; 3:16-17) that we could be once again to the praise of His glory (Ephesians 1:3-14).
God gives us the same choice today that He has given to all man through the generations, and that is the choice to be to the praise of His glory and escape the coming wrath of the end times through His Son Jesus. For it will come on us all unexpectedly and we need to be ready when it does. If you feel God prompting your heart to accept Jesus and turn from the sinful nature of this world and into a new life in Christ Jesus, it is God’s way of asking you to believe in Him and receive His gift to you of salvation from sin and to receive eternal life through Jesus. Make the choice for Jesus and be to the praise of His glory for eternity. For He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).
Dear Lord,
You have given us a way to escape the coming end and condemnation due to the sinful nature of this world through Your Son Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. He conquered sin, death, and Satan for each of us. Please prompt our hearts that we would open our lives to receive eternal life through Him and be to the praise of Your glory. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
