Luke 18:35-43
In Luke 18:35-43 Jesus was traveling on a road near Jericho and a blind man, as he heard the crowd approaching, asked what was going on. He was informed that Jesus of Nazareth was coming down the road. The blind man began to cry out for Jesus to have mercy on him but was told by others to be quiet. The blind man ignored the advice of those around him and continued to cry out for Jesus to have mercy on him.
Jesus stopped and asked for the blind man to be brought to Him and then asked the blind man what it was that he desired of Jesus to do for him. The blind man replied that he wanted to have his sight restored. Jesus spoke the words for the blind man to receive his sight, and it was done. Jesus stated that it was the man’s faith that had healed him. Immediately the blind man was healed and began following Jesus and glorifying God. All the people who saw this miracle gave praise to God.
This is an example of the healing power of Jesus.
This is an example of putting our faith in Jesus.
We often hear of a person who is said to have great faith, but it is the object of our faith that makes it great. In the case of this blind man, his faith was in the healing power of Jesus; he believed that Jesus could and would heal him if he could get His attention through the crowd. This man cried out for Jesus to have mercy on him. This man showed his humility to Jesus and submitted himself to Jesus that He might heal him.
Jesus will also hear our cries through the crowd and stop to call us to Himself that He may heal us and answer us as we submit ourselves in humility to Him. This is His desire, that we submit our lives to Him and seek His guidance each day.
We were all lost to sin when Adam and Eve disobeyed God. God sent His one and only Son to bring us back to Him and redeem us from the sinful nature that has kept us away from Him for so long. He is our rightful Father and Creator, and He is waiting for us to cry out to Him. God is love (1 John 4:8) and He will not force Himself upon us as love is not forceful but always giving. Our Father in heaven offers us a new life of salvation through forgiveness in His Son Jesus, whom He sent to save the world from sin (John 3:16-17). Today is a good day to accept this gift and become a child of God. Jesus has made the offer to us when He died on the cross for our sins with His arms wide open. Jesus said that it is through your faith that makes this possible. Is your faith in Jesus? Do you believe in Him? Ask His forgiveness today for your sins and declare Him your Savior. If you do, you will be saved and welcomed into the family of God.
Dear Lord,
Thank You Lord for giving us this lesson that teaches us that our faith in Jesus, our Savior, is the point of our salvation. Please help us to believe in His healing power, that it is enough for the healing that we need in our lives. Please help us to believe that Jesus died for us so that we may live through Him. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
