Luke 17:22-30
In speaking of the coming of the kingdom of God, Jesus goes on to say that the day will come when they will desire to see that day, but do not believe when one says to “look here”, or “look there” as if the kingdom of God is coming, for the kingdom of God will come as a bolt of lightning flashes.
Jesus goes on to say that people will be going about their business as usual, just as in the days of Noah when the flood came (Genesis 6-9), and as in the days of Lot, when Sodom was destroyed by raining fire and brimstone (Genesis 19).
Luke 17:31-36 explains that when Jesus returns, those who are taken will be taken in an instant; there will be no time to gather one’s things as no earthly thing will go with those who are taken up. Those who turn back are more concerned with earthly things than they are with keeping their focus on God’s will for their lives. All people will be divided in an instant: some will be taken, and some will be left behind.
This is an example of the coming of the kingdom of God.
When Jesus returns to call His people home, we will not have time then to “get right” with God and make amends for our sins in repentance: it will be too late, for this will happen in the amount of time it takes a bolt of lightning to flash (Luke 17:24). The time to repent and put your faith in Jesus is now, before it is too late! Don’t be one of those who are left behind when He returns.
Dear Lord,
You have given us Your Word as the textbook to life. We find that true life in Your Son Jesus whom You sent to save the world from sin (John 3:16-17). Now is the time to repent and put our faith in Jesus and receive a new life in Him that gives salvation. Please help us to see that we cannot wait for the day that Jesus returns to repent, because then it will be too late and those who have not put their faith in You will be left behind. Please call our hearts to You LORD, so that we are not left behind, but that we would submit our lives to true life in Jesus. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
