Luke 16:18
Genesis 2:21-25 explains that God made a woman from the rib of a man. We also learn that a man will leave his father and mother to be united with his wife and the two shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:18 teaches us that God thought it was not good for man to be alone, so He made a woman to be the man’s companion. The Apostle Paul teaches us in Ephesians 5:22-33 that the man and the woman should be dedicated to one another and have a unified respect for one another in marriage. Paul explains that marriage is a representation of the relationship between Jesus and the Church as Jesus gave His life for the Church out of His great love for the Church. Husbands are to love their wives just as Jesus loved the Church, and wives should love their husbands just as the Church loves Jesus. The love, bond, and relationship between Jesus and the Church is everlasting, just as marriage was intended to be.
This is a command, example, and promise of how God intended marriage to be between a man and a woman.
Marriage is not often sanctified today as it was intended by our Creator God. The bond is to be everlasting. The woman is to love her husband, and the man is to cherish and care for his wife as Jesus loves and cares for the Church so that she would be holy and without blemish. A man should love his wife as he loves himself as the bond of marriage is a uniting of two people into one unified body. Marriage should not be a power struggle but a blessing from God in life, love, and respect for one another. With this focus on marriage, adultery is non-existent.
Dear Lord,
Satan shows his power over a man and a woman through the conflicts that are faced in marriage. Satan caused the first sinful act of a man and a woman by tricking them into believing a lie; a lie that he still uses today to drive a wedge between a man and a woman in the bond of marriage. Jesus has overcome and defeated sin, death, and Satan once for all (Romans 6:4-11). Please help us to seek the guidance of Jesus and implement the love and respect for each other in the blessing that You have given us in marriage. Please help us to humble ourselves to one another and let the love of Jesus flow in marriage as You desire it to be. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
