Luke 15:8-10
In this second consecutive story of something valuable to its owner being lost, a woman loses a silver coin and then searches carefully until she finds it. As in the first story of the lost sheep, the result of the lost being found is joy. Luke 15:10 is much the same as Luke 15:7 in that both stories end with a comparison to what it is like in heaven when a lost sinner repents, the result is joy in all of heaven.
This is an example of how important each person’s salvation is to Jesus; when the lost is found, all of heaven rejoices.
Through these first two parables in Luke 15:1-10 we are gaining an understanding of what Jesus proclaims in Luke 19:10 and Matthew 18:11 which is that He has come to save the lost. We are beginning to see just how important each of our lives is to our heavenly Father and why He sent His one and only Son to save us from sin (John 3:16-17). The Almighty God of heaven is a personable God and He desires to have a personal relationship with each of us. Through His daily guidance we can find and fulfill the purpose in which He put each of us on this earth. The result for us is salvation in His Son Jesus; the result for Him is that through our salvation we bring glory to Him…and all of heaven rejoices!
Dear Lord,
You sent Your one and only Son to seek out the lost. Please help us to open our hearts to Jesus so that we may be found, repent, and bring glory to You as all of heaven will rejoice in the joy of our becoming a child of God (Luke 15:7, 10; John 1:12-13). In Jesus name I pray, amen.
