Luke 14:34-35
Jesus states in Matthew 5:13 that those who believe in Him are the salt of the earth. Salt gives flavor to whatever it is mixed with as it is blended throughout the whole of the matter. Jesus gave the command of the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19 (NKJV) to “Go and make disciples of all the nations.” In Mark 16:15 Jesus teaches His disciples to, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” Jesus is teaching that as a disciple of His, one must share the flavor of the gospel to the world. If a disciple of His is not adding the flavor of the gospel salt to the world, then they are useless in the purpose of a disciple of His.
This is a command for those who believe in Jesus to share the gospel.
This is a promise that all who believe in Jesus are equipped with the good news/gospel to share with others.
This is an example that those who believe in Jesus are the flavor of the world (Matthew 5:13).
As God’s children (John 1:12-13) we are the salt of the earth. God gives us all different gifts, but in those gifts are the abilities to share the love of Jesus with those around us. Sharing the gospel/good news of Jesus can be accomplished in many ways such as in a kind word, gesture, or by simply lending a helping hand with a caring attitude. We must also keep in mind that we, as God’s children, make mistakes. We can share the love of Jesus through the way in which we seek forgiveness. Jesus humbled Himself to take our place on the cross, we too should humble ourselves to one another in sharing His love that lives within us.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for the opportunity to share the gospel and the love that You have indwelled us with through Your Holy Spirit and the love of our Savior, Your only begotten Son, Jesus. Please help us to utilize the gifts that You have given us to be the salt of the earth and spread the gospel of Jesus with others. Please help us to do so with a humble attitude that is not condescending, but in realizing that we all have sinned and fall short of Your glory and it is only through Your mercy and grace that we are able to be Your disciples. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
