Luke 1:29-33
To say that Mary was “troubled” (Luke 1:29, NKJV) is to say that she was concerned as to why she would receive such a greeting as found in Luke 1:28, “And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” Just the fact that the greeting came from an angel of the Lord is much to take in. The angel Gabriel comforts her in Luke 1:30 and then goes on to inform her of the good news that he has come to deliver to her.
- You will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son (Luke 1:31).
- You shall call His name JESUS. (Luke 1:31).
- He will be great, (Luke 1:32).
- He will be called the Son of the Highest; (Luke 1:32).
- The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David (Luke 1:32).
- He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, (Luke 1:33).
- And of His kingdom there will be no end (Luke 1:33).
This is the official announcement of how the Lord will bring our Savior Jesus into the world.
There is much to be said and studied about the above 7 points (9 if we include the two found in Luke 1:30 – “Do not be afraid,” and “you have found favor with God”). The entire Old Testament is the events that prepare all of man, not just Israel, for this announcement and the fulfillment of this announcement. The twelve tribes of Israel are named after the sons and grandsons of Jacob (Luke 1:33), which we can read and study in the Old Testament book of Genesis. The connection to King David (Luke 1:32), can be read and studied in the Old Testament book of 1 and 2 Samuel. Luke 1:33b states, “and of His kingdom there will be no end” is the entirety of the New Testament and the fulfilling of the prophecy of the Old Testament. This announcement is of the redemptive plan of the Almighty God for all of mankind!
Dear Lord,
You sent Your angel Gabriel to announce to Mary that she found favor with You in that through her You would bring our Savior Jesus into the world to save the world from sin. Thank You LORD! Thank You LORD! Thank You LORD! “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:16-17). Thank You LORD! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
