Luke 12:27-28

Jesus continues teaching His disciples to not worry. He uses the lilies of the field in all their beauty and splendor as an example. They do not toil or spin, yet God has created them in magnificent beauty. God has created the lilies and grass with a magnificent and intricate beauty; He will clothe those who put their faith in Him with so much more. Jesus ends this passage by convicting His hearers of having little faith.

This is a command, example, and promise to put our trust in the Lord.

Jesus notes in this passage that not even King Solomon was arrayed like the lilies that God has created. Yet He cares for us so much more than the lilies and the grasses of the field. We should put the trust of all our heart in the Almighty God of heaven, and in everything we do we should acknowledge Him. If we will do this, He will give us direction in our lives. Proverbs 3:5–8 (NKJV) declares,

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart,

And lean not on your own

understanding;

In all your ways acknowledge Him,

And He shall direct your paths.

Do not be wise in your own eyes;

Fear the LORD and depart from evil.

It will be health to your flesh,

And strength to your bones.”

We do not have the insight, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of God. Our ways are less than His ways. As we submit our lives to Him through receiving salvation (His gift to us) in His one and only Son, He will direct our every step and lead us through His Holy Spirit that He has promised to us. John 14:15-18 states, “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever–the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”

Dear Lord,

Please help us to see the beauty that You have woven into nature in showing us Your magnificent splendor. Please help us to see that we are more precious in Your eyes than all of nature and that You will lead us and guide us through every worry that might come our way if we will give them to You and trust in the salvation You have offered us in Your Son Jesus. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
