Luke 12:24-26

Jesus is teaching His disciples that there is no point in worrying about things that are out of our control. Jesus uses birds as an example; they have no program of sowing seed or reaping a harvest; they have no storehouse or barn to gather food for future comfort, but they are fed by God each day (Luke 12:24). Jesus explains that we are much more valuable than the birds of the air. We learn in Genesis 1:26-28 that man was created in God’s own image to have dominion over all the earth and all the living creatures of the earth. If God takes care of the least of these, He will most definitely take care of His greatest of all His creation on earth – us!

Jesus adds that by worrying, one is unable to add to his or her height, and He notes that if man is unable to do something that to Him is so simple, why would there be any sense in worrying about things that are even more difficult to accomplish.

This is a command to not worry about things that are out of our control.

This is an example of God caring for us and the need for us to let go of our worries and trust in Him.

This is a promise that God is in control of all things, which includes our lives.

We all have concerns about life. Let’s be concerned for the things in life that we can make a difference in or for, and give our worries, which are overwhelming to us, to God and trust in Him to guide us through His Holy Spirit which He sends to live within us when we accept the gift that He has given us through salvation in His Son Jesus (John 14:15-18).

Dear Lord,

We have many concerns about this hustle and bustle world in which we live. Please help us to not let our concerns turn into worries, which we have no control of, but that we will give the concerns which are out of our control to You and trust that You will see us through the low parts of our lives and provide for us as Your greatest creation on earth. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
