Luke 11:47-51
The Israelites historically did not listen to the prophets and the apostles that God sent to guide them. Yet many of the prophets and apostles were killed (martyred) as if they were not sent from the Almighty God of heaven to be a guide for God’s people. The hypocrisy involved in the actions of the Israelites is noted by Jesus and brought out by Him in an attempt to allow them to see how the sinful nature is living abundantly in their lives. Constructive criticism attacks the pride and arrogance of the Pharisees and scribes/lawyers, but the first step in repentance is to realize the problem in which they were unwilling to do.
This is an example of how we can be blinded by the sinful nature.
Jesus says that the blood of the prophets will be required of that generation (Luke 11:51), but the world is still today killing (martyring) those who are sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The blood of the prophets would be required of that generation as Jesus shed it on the cross for all generations. Let us not set aside and be blinded by the sinful nature that Satan attacks us with, but that we would put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20) and fight the good fight for Jesus in sharing the Gospel with those around us in bringing praise, glory, and honor to our Creator God and His Son Jesus, whom He sent to save the world from sin (John 3:16-17).
Dear Lord,
Please help us to see that constructive criticism is a way to repentance and that we would not allow the pride and arrogance of the sinful nature to overcome us as we seek to follow Jesus. But that we would put on the whole armor of God and fight the good fight for Jesus in our generation. Please help us to bring glory to You LORD through our lives. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
