Luke 11:45-46

As Jesus gives the three woes to the Pharisees and the scribes, some lawyers of the day were present in the crowd. These lawyers, in their arrogance and pride, question Jesus as if He has insulted them. The response that Jesus gives the lawyers is that as they give burdensome tasks to the people of the community, they themselves are not willing to follow their own instruction.

This is an example of the prideful, arrogant, oppressive attitude of the sinful nature that is at work in us all.

This is an example of Jesus teaching us to love one another as He has first loved us (John 13:34-35).

Over and again throughout the teachings of Jesus we will find a common denominator, and that is this: to turn from the ways of the sinful nature that is in itself the grasp of Satan on our lives and put on a new life in Christ Jesus. He came to set us free from the grasp of Satan because our Creator God loves us all so much (John 3:16-17). God is love (1 John 4:8), and love does not behave in pride and arrogance, but in caring and compassion for one another (Ephesians 5:22-26). Love is a gift; It is given freely from God to all who will receive it (John 1:12-13, 16). But love must be accepted and acknowledged by the receiver to become active in the relationship between the Giver and the receiver.

God cries out to us through His Son Jesus to accept a gift of salvation in Him, which will set us free from the grasp of Satan and the sinful nature. It is up to us to accept this gift and acknowledge it by making a change in our lives to follow the teachings of Jesus in submitting our lives to Him and seek His will for our lives each day through prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with one another.

Dear Lord,

Please help us to see that Your great plan for each of our lives does not involve living in the sinful nature, but that we would repent from the sinful nature and live a new life and follow the plan that You have for each of us in Jesus Christ, whom You sent to save us from sin. Help us to acknowledge our faith in Jesus by applying His teachings in our lives. You offer us a gift of love in Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ; please help us to see how great this gift is and to receive it as we put on a new life in Jesus. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
