Luke 10:8-9
Jesus is instructing His disciples to be gracious as guests in the house that receives them. To be thankful for the meals that are provided for them. They are representing Jesus and should conduct themselves as He would approve.
Jesus also instructs His disciples to heal the sick and profess the kingdom of God to those they encounter. Jesus has empowered His disciples in Luke 9:1-2, however, He has empowered 70-72 disciples (Luke 10:1) instead of just the twelve who were closest to Him (Luke 9:1-2).
This is the action of Jesus growing the kingdom of God.
Jesus sent His disciples into the world to spread the Word of the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. We too are His disciples. We too should share His Word and the gospel (good news) of the kingdom of God and do our part to help heal the sick. This may be somewhat of a surprise and may leave you in disbelief, but doing our part in helping to heal the sick can be accomplished by all of us in a kind word, a prayer with the sick person, and by letting that person know that you are praying for them. To be encouraging to someone in need and to let that person know that you are concerned for their well-being is healing to the soul of that person. The Lord may very well work through His Holy Spirit in the words that we speak to one another. This is a way in which we can take action to help others, as God, through His Holy Spirit will work in the lives of others. This is our faith taking action in trusting God to work through His Holy Spirit. As we do our part in helping to fulfill the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-47; John 20:21, 30-31, we are taking action to be to the praise of His glory (Ephesians 1:11-14).
Dear Lord,
Please help us to be gracious to those around us as we are representatives of Jesus. Just as the disciples that Jesus sent to share the gospel of the kingdom of heaven and to heal the sick in Luke 9:1-2; 10:1, help us to see that we are also Your disciples and we too are enabled through Your Holy Spirit to do our part in helping to fulfill the Great Commission and be a gateway to Jesus in healing and leading lost souls to You. Please help us to take action in being to the praise of Your glory as the Apostle Paul teaches us in Ephesians 1:11-14. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
