Luke 10:4-7
This entire passage (Luke 10:1-12) is a literal, physical explanation of salvation. And these few verses (Luke 10:4-7) is the receiving, or acceptance of Jesus in its purity. Jesus instructed His disciples to take nothing with them; they did not enter a town with extra supplies or bearing gifts as to entice one to invite them into their home, as does the promises of this world. The disciples of Jesus were to present themselves genuinely, that those who would invite them into their homes would do so out of a genuine and sincere heart. As laborers of Christ Jesus, the disciples will be worthy of the message they share, and the peace of Christ Jesus will be a blessing to them as well as those who receive the message of the Gospel. Jesus instructs His disciples to not go from house to house, but to remain in the same house during their stay in that town. Those who hear the call of Jesus will come to Him and invite Him in to remain in their home (heart). These are those in which the peace of God will be found (Luke 10:5-6).
This is a physical description of an example of receiving Jesus into our homes (hearts).
Jesus does not promise to lavish us with gifts of this world. He came to offer a genuine peace in saving us from sin. This peace is an inner peace that cannot be found in anything on this earth or in this physical world but is a spiritual gift that God offers to those who will sincerely and genuinely open the door of their home/heart to receive it. The gift of salvation is genuinely given and in turn must be genuinely received/accepted.
Satan uses the things of this world to keep us on a never-ending search for peace. He uses lies and trickery to deceive us into believing that we can actually find peace in this world, but true peace that will satisfy the soul is only found through salvation in Jesus (John 14:6). We are programmed through the sinful nature, that resides in us all, that in order to receive something, it must be in a physical state; something that we can see with our eyes. But love cannot be seen – the results of love can be seen. Peace cannot be seen – the results of receiving genuine peace can be seen. The spiritual gift of salvation in Christ Jesus cannot be seen – but the results can be seen in the change that occurs in one’s life from repenting (turning) from living in the ways of the sinful nature (Romans 8:5-11; Galatians 5:16-22) and putting on a new life in Christ Jesus.
Dear Lord,
As the disciples of Jesus walked in the genuine message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, please help us to also walk. Please help us to see spiritually so that we may understand the true gift of peace that You offer to us in salvation from sin through Your Son Jesus, that we may receive the gift of peace in our hearts and the gift of eternity in heaven. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
