Luke 10:2
Jesus speaks to His disciples about a great harvest, and that there are few laborers to bring that harvest in to Him. The harvest is those in the world that can be brought to Jesus that He may receive them to Him. In other words, these are the ones that will accept Jesus and believe in Him as Lord and Savior. These are the ones that will truly submit their will to the will of the Lord and become children of God (John 1:12-13). Jesus tells His disciples to pray about this matter, that the Lord would send out laborers for His harvest. The laborers are those who will share the Gospel and share their testimony about how the Lord has worked in their lives with those around them. These “laborers” are leading others to Jesus so that He may gain their attention to offer the gift of life to them. The harvest is for Jesus and the laborers lead others to Jesus to be harvested [God offers the gift of salvation through His Son Jesus. Being harvested is the act of personally receiving and accepting this gift – and becoming a child of God (John 1:12-13)].
This is a promise of the great number of people that will come to the Lord, and the need for the Gospel to be shared with them, to make them aware of the gift of salvation that God offers through His Son, our Savior, Jesus.
There are many people in the secular world today that have never heard of Jesus. There are many people who have never set foot inside of a Church. There are many people in this world that have never heard of Jesus or who He is. There are many people in this world who have never had the privilege to read a Bible. There are fewer and fewer people attending Church which, I declare, is a reason for revival. This is because there are fewer and fewer people sharing the Gospel – there are fewer and fewer laborers going into the world to bring in His harvest. We are the laborers. It is our duty as Christians to share the Gospel with those around us so that Jesus may work through His Holy Spirit to call them to salvation in Him (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-47; John 20:21, 30-31).
Dear Lord,
Please give us the strength and courage to humbly share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, with those around us; that Your Holy Spirit may work through our lives to touch the lives of those around us; that through our labors we would lead others to You that they too may receive salvation through and in Jesus. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
