Luke 10:13-16

In sending the disciples out to heal the sick and proclaim the kingdom of God (Luke 10:9), Jesus knew which cities would accept His teaching and which cities would not accept His teaching. Jesus teaches His disciples that those who will receive them will receive Him, and those who will reject them are in the same rejecting Him. And maybe the most astounding and profound statement for these people is that Jesus teaches them that those who reject Him are rejecting His heavenly Father (God). The result for these cities that will not accept His teaching is the same as for the cities that will not receive His disciples (Luke 10:10-12).  The difference is that now Jesus has added the rejection of His disciples in Luke 10:10-12 to the rejection of Himself and His heavenly Father (Luke 10:13-16).  The result for these cities is not heaven, but Hades (Luke 10:15).

This is a promise of condemnation for those who do not receive Jesus.

As Jesus sent His disciples out to prepare the way for His coming in Luke 10:1-16, He sends us out today. There will be those who receive Him and there will be those who do not receive Him. Each person must make that choice for themselves. Which choice will you make, or have you made? To continue in the sinful ways of this world will result in condemnation and eternity in Hades (Luke 10:15). To confess your sins to Jesus, ask of His forgiveness, repent from a life of sin, and begin a new life seeking God’s will for your life each day will result in eternal life in heaven. God will speak to your heart through His Holy Spirit and call you to Him. Through God’s great love for each of us He allows us to make that choice for ourselves; love is a gift; will you accept God’s love for you?

Dear Lord,

We have seen in this passage today that those who will not receive Jesus are not receiving You LORD. The result for those who will not receive Jesus is eternity in Hades (Luke 10:15). You have sent Your Son Jesus to save us from sin (John 3:16-17) and through Him offer the gift of eternal life to each of us. Please open our eyes, hearts, minds, and souls to this greatest of all gifts that we all would answer the call of Your Holy Spirit in our lives with an undeniable YES!  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
