Luke 10:10-12

Jesus came to declare life in Him for all who will believe (John 1:12-13).  In this passage, Jesus is teaching His disciples to declare what will become of those who do not believe in Him. This announcement is to be made in public for all to hear that there will be no excuse for those who have heard this announcement. He wants everyone to be aware that the kingdom of God has been offered to them and if not received will result in a day that the city of Sodom (Genesis 18-19) will not have it as bad as they.

This is a promise and example of what will become of those who do not believe in Jesus; for those who refuse to receive Him.

Jesus teaches us in Matthew 12:31-32 that every sin will be forgiven except that of against the Holy Spirit. If a person is blaspheming or grieving the Holy Spirit of God, then that person has not received Jesus and accepted what He has done on the cross in paying our debt to sin for us so that we may have life in Him. God gives His Holy Spirit to dwell within us when we confess our sins to Him, repent (turn) from our sins, accept Jesus by inviting Him to live in our hearts, and begin living a new life by following the teachings of Jesus. If a person never receives God’s Holy Spirit, that person has never accepted Jesus into their life. If a person dies having never received God’s Holy Spirit, that person has committed the unpardonable sin. For this person, the end result for the fallen city of Sodom will be better than they (Luke 10:12).

Dear Lord,

Please help us to see that there is action required of us in receiving eternal life through our Savior Jesus Christ. Please help us to see that this action required of us is not in earning our salvation (something that we cannot do) but in confessing our sins, repenting from them, and making a commitment to follow Jesus, and then doing so. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
