Jude 20-21
Jude changes gears in Jude 20-21 (NKJV) as he gives encouragement to those who are faithful to their salvation in Christ Jesus as he states, “20But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” As Jude has been warning of the false teachers among them, he realizes the importance of building up those in Christ Jesus with encouragement and blessings.
This is an example of giving encouragement and support to each other in Christ.
Jude says that we should keep ourselves in the love of God (Jude 21a), and the Apostle John teaches us about love as he states in 1 John 4:10-11, “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” To be the propitiation for our sins is to be our substitute for us in paying for our sins. The Apostle Paul teaches us in Romans 6:23a that “the wages of sin is death,” but he goes on in Romans 6:23b to declare that “the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Jesus died for our sins – to pay our price for sin so that we may live and be free from sin for eternity. Keep looking for the mercy that God has shown us in Christ Jesus; He is there waiting for you to come to Him.
Dear LORD,
You have extended Your great love and mercy to us in Your One and only Son Jesus to save us from sin. Please save us from sin and let Your mercy rest upon us in Christ Jesus. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
