Jude 14-15
Enoch was described as that he walked with God and then he was taken by God without experiencing physical death (Genesis 5:21-24). The author of Hebrews declares that Enoch “pleased God” (Hebrews 11:5, NKJV) and explains the importance of having faith in God to be pleasing to Him as he states in Hebrews 11:6, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” In Jude 14-15, Jude is using one of the most faithful people to God to show the importance of being faithful to God in the daily decisions we make. He highlights the words of Enoch that are taken from a source other than the Bible to reiterate the truth of the disobedient to God being eternally punished (Jude 14-15).
This is an example of the faithful to God expressing the need for being faithful to God.
It is important for us to realize and understand that God, being love (1 John 4:8) is also held by His own character of being just. The Bible teaches in Zechariah 9:9, “. . . Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, . . .” And in 1 John 1:9 we learn the importance of our faithfulness to Him, along with the importance of the little word “if” as the Apostle John states, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” We must realize and understand the importance of the word “if” in this statement and of our part in coming to Jesus in confession of being sinful and asking His forgiveness for our sins. He will not turn away a faithful and obedient heart for forgiveness.
Dear LORD,
Please help us all to realize and understand that before we can receive Your forgiveness and be saved, we must come to You and ask with a convicted heart that we are sinful and in need of Your forgiveness. You are faithful and just to forgive us our sins if we will do so – in Christ. Thank You LORD for Your forgiveness and salvation through Your One and only Son Jesus. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
