Jude 1-2

Jude introduces himself as a “bondservant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James” (Jude 1, NKJV). Jude and James were two of the earthly brothers of Jesus, or what we might refer to as half-brothers. They were not always believers in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God (John 7:1-5), but the death and resurrection of Jesus changed their lives, and they too became followers of the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). He writes this letter to “those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ:” (Jude 1) and gives them blessings of mercy, peace, and love (Jude 2).

This is an example of the change that Jesus can have on one’s life once His death and resurrection are realized and understood in one’s heart unto salvation.

We can all relate somewhat to Jude as we all were at some point in our lives unknown to the death, resurrection, and saving power of Jesus. But like Jude and his brother James, we all have the potential, in Christ, to become more than we could ever have imagined as we repent from sin and begin seeking God’s will for our lives. When Jesus first began calling His disciples, He called ordinary, everyday people who had normal, everyday jobs as fishermen. But Jesus changed their lives, as He can ours, by calling them to follow Him as He declared in Matthew 4:19, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Through the power of Jesus working in our lives through His Holy Spirit, we all can become fishers of men.

Dear LORD,

You use everyday ordinary people to do everyday extraordinary things. We submit our lives to You today to use us to do extraordinary things in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
