Hebrews 7:26-28

The author of Hebrews gives the credentials of Jesus as High Priest above all others and signifies a special place for Jesus as, “…separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens” (Hebrews 7:26, NKJV)Hebrews 4:15 (ESV) states, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.”  Jesus does not need to offer daily sacrifice for His sins because He was/is without sin, making Him the perfect sacrifice to fulfill the Law and to be the propitiation/to appease for our sins that we may be made right with God.  The Apostle Paul tells us in 1 Timothy 2:5-6 (NIV), “For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people.”  The high priests appointed through the Law were men, and being men were imperfect and still yet sinful in and of themselves, showing the continual need for the perfection that would satisfy the requirements of the Law.  Jesus, being sinless, appointed through the order of Melchizedek, the “king of righteousness” and the “king of peace” (Hebrews 7:2, NKJV), reigns forever and fulfilled the requirements of the Law when He died a sinless death and arose from the grave victorious over the penalty for sin, which is death (Romans 6:23).  Through His victory we all may receive His righteousness through asking of His forgiveness in true repentance; and become children of God.

This is a promise of the perfect, sinless High Priest Jesus, in which perfection is everlasting.

Jesus is our mediator to God for our forgiveness of sin.  He sits at the right hand of the Almighty God to intercede for us as our Savior.  But we must proclaim Him in our lives if we want Him to proclaim us in heaven for our salvation.  Jesus tells us in Matthew 10:32-33 (HCSB), “Therefore, everyone who will acknowledge Me before men, I will also acknowledge him before My Father in heaven.  But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in heaven.”

The Bible, Old Testament and New Testament, from Genesis to Revelation points us to Jesus and the need for the forgiveness that can only be found in Him.  Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).  This verse is so important because we will all stand before God when we die, and we all will die one day.  But the death we die is a physical death which leads to spiritual eternity.  Spiritual eternity will be spent in one of two places: heaven or hell.  When we stand before God there is only one way in which He will welcome us into heaven because we, in and of ourselves are sinful, but if Jesus is standing before God with us, He intercedes for us – He mediates our salvation before God for us – if we have confessed Him during our physical lives – if we have opened our hearts to Him and asked of His forgiveness in sincere submission to Him.  That means “before we die.”  If we never open our hearts to Jesus, the door to heaven will not be open to us.  Jesus states in John 10:9 (ESV), “I am the door.  If anyone enters by me, he will be saved…”

If you have not done so, I encourage you to open your heart to Jesus today.  He is the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).

Dear LORD,

You have given us Your word so that we may learn of Your great plan of salvation for all mankind.  The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 10:12-13 (ESV), “For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.  For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved” [Joel 2:32].  Thank You for Your great love for each of us that You would save even me from sin.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
