Hebrews 13:10-16

God had given instructions to Moses that certain portions of the animals to be sacrificed under the old covenant Law were to be given to the acting priest for him and his family to eat.  But on the Day of Atonement, the carcasses of the sacrificed animals were to be burned outside the camp.  Jesus was also sacrificed outside the camp signifying that one must go outside the camp of the Law to experience this event in Christ Jesus.  It would now be required to go outside the camp to experience the saving power of Jesus – there is now a need to go outside the Law to find the fulfillment of the Law, which is only found in opening one’s heart to the Savior of the world – Jesus.  The author of Hebrews teaches that continuing sacrifices should be given to God, but the sacrifices should now be of praise and thanksgiving to Him for the gift He has given to all who believe in Jesus as redeemer and Savior of the world.  As a result of this salvation, good works are encouraged as this is pleasing to God (Hebrews 13:16).

This is a promise of a new covenant that is for all who will believe in Jesus.

As Christians, our salvation is found in Christ Jesus outside of the rules and regulations of the Law, which has been fulfilled by Jesus in His death, burial, and resurrection.  That is why we should put our faith in Him – because He has done for us what we or the Law could not do – He fulfilled the requirement of a sinless death for the forgiveness of sin.  His forgiveness should be reflective in our lives by our praise and thanksgiving to Him and of our actions of good works to all those around us in being a reflection of our Savior Jesus.

Dear LORD,

Thank You for the gift to all people of salvation in Christ Jesus who came to save the world from sin that we all may be set free from it and have eternal life – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
